Biker Down course to feature at National Conference

How to help if a motorcyclist goes down

The Biker Down course was originally created by Kent Fire & Rescue Service (KFRS) to be implemented as a first response method of helping a motorcyclist involved in a road traffic accident.  The course gives advice to motorcyclists on the best way to respond if you are at the scene of an accident involving another motorcyclist.  It covers: scene management based on rescue teams experience of what to expect; first aid, specific to the kind of injuries which might occur in a motorcycle accident and what to do to make yourself more visible to other road users.

Due to its practical effectiveness, the Biker Down course's reputation has grown, until it is now used by many Fire and Rescue teams across the UK and it is now due to be presented to delegates at the National Road Safety Conference later this year in November.

Biker Down will be presented to the conference by its founder Jim Sanderson, who has been a firefighter for 14 years and a motorcyclist for 21. He is also a DSA motorcycle instructor and a road traffic collision instructor, so is well qualified to start and deliver Biker Down. His co presenter at the road safety conference is Lawrence Pater, who is also from KFRS and who has served 25 years as a firefighter - in command roles for the last 14. A perfect team to generate and deliver the course.

The 2014 National Road Safety Conference is being hosted by Road Safety GB South East Region and co-sponsored by Colas and AA DriveTech.  It will be presented at The Grand Hotel in Brighton on 25-26 November and promises to be well attended with more than 170 people already registered to go and 14 organisations exhibiting.
