Two Brummie brothers rolled up at Wemoto on Wednesday on a round the UK motorcycle trip of a lifetime
In the blazing sun at 2pm on Wednesday two brothers from Birmingham rolled up at Wemoto to get an inner tube to repair a puncture. They were travelling on a motorcycle road trip adventure round the whole coast of England inspired, they told us, by Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman's trips but with only enough time off work and cash to do a circular trip round the coast of the UK this time - next time the world!. Not everyone has a support team and a TV programme behind them but some people just get up and do it anyway!
They had already had adventures along the way, from Birmingham they had got as far as Bristol and then Pete had broken down and they had to go home for repairs and a restart - mildly annoying as they both only had two weeks off work for their trip!
This was the restart and this time they had decided to zoom down to Southampton and set off East along the coast. Unfortunately one of their bikes (Andy's this time) got a puncture hence their calling in at
Wemoto in Southwick to get an inner tube. While they were here we fuelled them up with cups of tea and water as well as parts, just to help them on their way fully hydrated and caffeinated - it was a very hot day!
They had planned their trip well but were equally up for the unexpected and having unforeseen adventures along the way, so the breakdown and the inner tube had not fazed them at all and they seemed happy and relaxed and looking forward to the road ahead.
Flyboy boxes
They had all their kit on board in really neat and efficient pilots boxes which were fixed to home made frames which Andy had made himself. They had done a great job with these and they really looked the business. Another example of how with a bit of skill and ingenuity you can make your own panniers and kit for a fraction of the price of purpose built bought stuff. They also had good thick sheepskins on their saddles to make the ride more comfy so their bikes looked like something out of A Fistful of Dollars, but even with those on they knew they were going to get numb bums as they were attempting around 200 miles a day.
Into the wild
They were intending to rough camp wherever possible to save money and because it's more fun, spending the occasional night in official campsites just so that they could have a shower. They had a real spirit of adventure and their trip shows how you can have a really interesting ride seeing parts of the UK which are not usually on the tourist map, independently, without a tour company or several Landrovers for support and without having to spend a fortune.
They were both already obviously enjoying themselves and looking forward to meeting the unexpected along the way. We wished them well as they set off heading East with their smiling faces - and what perfect weather for a camping road trip - nice one guys good for you and have a brilliant time!
