It's electrifying!

News from the electric motorcycle world

Further to the government announcement in November that it would provide a subsidy to those who buy an electric motorcycle, it has now been confirmed that Zero Motorcycles has been approved for the grant.

Its bikes will be reduced by £1500 or 20% of the total cost price, whichever is the smallest. And Zero is lowering its recommended retail prices to further promote sales.

Nonetheless, Zero has cause to be nervous. For a new British start-up company, Vigo is promoting an electric bike with a 400-mile range, and promising a top speed of 180mph, with 3.2 seconds from 0-60. At present, the longest range a Zero motorcycle offers is 202 miles.

To make the bike that more appealing, the cost price will be just £8,000. Oh, and it also looks good too in all its sportiness. It gets better. While Vigo says it will take 7-12 hours to be fully charged at home, it should reach full charge in only 20-30 minutes at a fast charge station. You can find out where they are exactly on the Eco Motorcycles website.

Sound too good to be true? Check it out yourself, along with Vigo's promo video, at eco-motorcycles.co.uk/vigo.

Still, it'll be a tough one to compete with this new beauty by Energica:

We're kidding. The 'Midnight Runner' provides 124 miles per charge, which is not to be sniffed at compared to some electric bikes, we have to say. But whether it's a beauty or not, we'll let you decide that one. Though you can't deny it's a quirky individual.
