Pikes Peak Race To The Clouds Hillclimb
A decision from the organisers settled that motorbikes will no longer be allowed in this race!
A recently issued press release from the Board of Directors of Pikes Peak race says that there will be no more motorcycles allowed in the famous US race. n 2019 there was a fatal crash during the race, when Carlin Dunne, who was racing on a prototype Ducati Streetfighter V4, crashed very close to the finish line and was tragically killed. Witnesses said that they believed he had hit a bump which caused him to lose control. After the crash, the bike was examined and no mechanical faults were found.
In a press release after two years of discussion, the interim Chairman of the Board, Fred Veitch said:
“Motorcycle competition has been part of the history of the race off-and-on since 1916, and has been both thrilling and tragic for competitors and fans alike,” “This has been a long process and a difficult decision, but we believe it is the right decision and one that is in the best interest of the organisation at this time.”
So, in the interests of safety, that's that for bikes racing in the US mountain Race to the Clouds Hillclimb from now on.
