Robyn Mapp - woman racer

on her way to the front

While we were at the MCN London Motorcycle show at ExCel we met a female racer who seems to be on her way to the front.  Here is a bit about her career to date in her own words:

I passed my road bike test in 2007, but my first adventure in motorbike racing came when I used a 2005 registered Yamaha R6 in the Bemsee Rookie 600 class in 2009 in a few taster races. I enjoyed the experience so much that I decided to try and develop the skills I would need to compete.

My first experience of Bemsee Club Racing was in 2009 on my father's Yamaha R6 in the Rookie class but I found using the Yamaha too costly so I sold it and bought a 2003 registered Suzuki SV650 for the Mini Twins class.

My 2010 season as a rookie Mini Twins rider was very successful and I had a good season finishing fifth overall in the championship which earned me a few front and rear Michelin tyre prizes along the way. I was also awarded for finishing second or third on points at individual meetings

In the penultimate round of the season at Snetterton 200 track I decided to enter the last Thunderbikes GB race of the day. The race was a total washout in the rain with appalling weather conditions but the race still went ahead. I started at the rear of the grid and to my surprise and delight I finished fourth!

In 2013 I gained a lot of track time which enabled me to gain more track knowledge and experience. In 2013 I also entered the women's bike insurer motorcycle championship and was in first position after the first round (4 races) but unfortunately had to pull out due to lack of funding.

Down but not out

The 2014 season brought an unfortunate injury leaving me unable to finish the season. Whilst this was very upsetting it has given me and my team more time to focus on getting both my wet and dry bikes ready for the new season. Now 2015 is upon us I'm more determined than ever to be in and win the Women's Bike Insurer British Motorcycle Championship which is also televised on sky motors tv.

We wish Robyn the best of luck with her racing career and if anyone wants to contact her about sponsorship email [email protected]
