Electric Poles

Kosynier

John Newman

Image
Meet the new electric motorcycle: Kosynier - designed with the looks of a vintage bike to take advantage of the current trend for all things retro.

This bike has been developed by brothers Marcin and Michal Bielawski, who were born into a family of Polish craftsmen.

The brothers' love for wheeled vehicles (particularly motorcycles, cycles and classic cars) came from growing up as helpers in their grandfather's forge, where they assisted their father in producing farm machinery.

They hope to bring Kosynier to the market through crowdfunding.

Production

The bikes will be made in the small town of Buk, near Poznan in western Poland. It's an area renowned for its craft skills, and the brothers will use their local links to create the handmade components that they hope will bring their new bikes a reputation and international recognition for quality.

The name Kosynier is derived from a 19th Century Polish partisan who fought for food and freedom armed with a scythe.

Stats

The bikes will be powered by a 300 Watt rear hub motor and two lithium-ion battery packs - one placed in the 'engine' and the other in the 'petrol tank'.

Top speed is said to be around 30mph, with a range (pedal-assisted) of almost fifty miles...good for 'cool look' round town riding.

Pricing

There are no official prices issued yet, but the basic model is set to sell for around $2500; a board track replica for $3900; and a de Luxe model, as yet unspecified for $4900.

The brothers are looking to raise $100,000 for the purchasing of materials to bring their bikes into production, should you fancy a punt. Their first bikes are planned to be completed and on sale by March '17.
